Sac Republic FC Repair Project at CAL EXPO

Greetings from Cal Expo,

This work year is taking off, and projects are starting to ramp up.  We have students THRIVING in the hands on training, Certifications and Union Job placement. On another note, Cal Expo reached out to NCCT about so subfloor repairs in one of the office units near the Sac Republic Stadium. We welcomed the opportunity! Many of my students are Sac Republic Fans and were excited to participate!
On day one our students assessed the dry rot damage. After removing the subfloor, we came to the conclusion that the subfloor needed to be reinforced. So they added blocking between the C channel (joists). As we were reinforcing the subfloor, a student noticed that the sink next to the shower didn’t have a drain and was therefore damaging the subfloor. So the students were also able to learn some plumbing drain codes, ABS fittings and take outs with multiple size fittings. Finally we installed the new sink drain and tied it into the main drain. All of this work peaked some of our students interest and they are now looking into taking the test to join the Plumbers and Pipefitters Local 447!

Speaking of the Plumbers and Pipefitters Local 447, C. Diaz  just joined them! He is now working on a 5 year Macarthy project in Roseville.
We are even more exited to announce that we also just placed 3 more Students in the Roofers and Water Proofers Local 81- A big Congratulations to M.Brito, L. E. Garay, and L. A. Garay.
All of these students were a part of this two week project and were placed in the Union trades after the process!

NCCT will keep pushing this hardline of success, and helping everyone see themselves through situations that could have taken them out!-Instructor Allyn Green
