Boy have we been at it this quarter with our projects, certifications, guest speakers and so many graduates into the Union construction trades!
Our Mather Program has started the next Sacramento Kings and Raley’s garden for Valley High School. Adding 6 raised planter boxes and 1 ADU planter box. We are also replacing many of the existing benches with new redwood ones and adding new dedicated waterlines with hose bibs for the new planter boxes, with fresh decomposed granite!
Our Placer program got learned all about concrete last week. We went over exact batching, slump ratio, finishing tools, control joints and different types of finishes like broom, stamp, stain, and exposed aggregate. Then they got to mix concrete and learn how to rod, float, edge, control joint, hard trowel and broom finish. They had a blast!
Many NCCT students recently completed their confined spaces, traffic control, flagging, CPR, scaffolding safety and just this week are working to complete their forklift certification with Tyler Wood at our Mather location.
Also for the first time last week we had Selby’s soil come out as a guest speaker for our Placer program. Brandon the superintendent educated all of our students on erosion control and storm water pollution prevention plan, which entails understanding how to keep dirt from going into drains on and near job sites. Brandon is planning a ride along with our Placer students here soon to see if this is what they are recalling interested in doing because they have lots of work on the books and are ready to HIRE!
Stay Cool out there everyone- Allyn Green Mather/Placer Instructor
